The Long Beach VA Healthcare System is hiring one full-time staff physician in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Health Care Group (PM&R HCG) at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System in Long Beach, California. The staff physician will provide services to the outpatient PM&R service with occasional inpatient cross-coverage as needed and reports to the RMS supervisor/chief of PM&R. Additional collateral duties may be assigned, limited to the abilities and privileges of the provider, depending on the needs of the PM&R Service. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year, and a possible 5-day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Position duties include, but are not limited to the following: Outpatient Services: Provides comprehensive assessment of patients with musculoskeletal disorders and physical impairments (including appropriate history and physical examination) to determine their rehabilitation needs; provides diagnostic workups, treatments, and follow-up as appropriate. Treatment interventions may include musculoskeletal and soft tissue injections. Possible coverage for subspecialty clinics (e.g. Brace, Amputee, Power Mobility, etc.) Inpatient Services: Provides comprehensive assessment of hospitalized patients (ARU or acute services) with new or established physical impairments, formulating comprehensive rehabilitation interventions, including medical treatments related to their disability to improve the patient's function, coordination, and recommendations for next level of care and collaboration with discharge planning. General Duties: Documents clinical assessments, treatment decisions, plan of care, ongoing management, and therapeutic outcomes, orders medications, diagnostic tests, and places appropriate referrals where needed for every patient encounter; documentation will be accomplished using the electronic comprehensive patient record system (CPRS), and will be completed within 24 hours of the encounter. Medications will be prescribed according to federal and state laws as well as VA policies. Responds to computerized "view Alerts" and to MyHealtheVet/Secure Messaging requests from veterans/family members on the day of receipt (weekends excepted); follows pertinent guidelines, including completion of clinical reminders in CPRS; access and timeliness standards; prescription order entry, National VA Formula requirements, and Customer Services standards. Works efficiently with patients, families, members of the multi-disciplinary team, and other VALBHS staff, demonstrates flexibility in responding to clinic demands, adheres to personal and professional obligations and responsible, practice, and ethical standards, and sustains a work environment that is harmonious and customer service oriented. Conducts themself in a professional manner; treats patients, visitors, and staff in a courteous manner. Completes appropriate evaluation and paperwork for special incidents such as medication errors, falls, injuries, adverse drug reactions, etc. Participates in the continuous quality improvement program and attends meetings as directed. Compliance and familiarity with all national standards utilized at this medical treatment facility, including VA Performance Measures and Monitors, Joint Commission, and NCQA standards.
