Job Summary
The physician is responsible for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of the health problems presented by the patients.
Essential Functions
- Develop and cultivate positive and productive working relationships with other Corewell Health personnel, and promote a culture of safety, teamwork, compassion, collaboration, clarity, curiosity, and courage. Demonstrate a commitment to service and distinctive, personalized care with both internal customers (coworkers, fellow employees, hospital staff, etc.) and external customers (patients, family members, referring physicians/specialists, etc.), while striving to exceed customer expectations.
- Assist in meeting operational, financial, and patient satisfaction goals. Timely completion of all specific competencies and annual organizational mandatories.
- Assess and monitor the medical needs of patients. Provide quality medical services to patients in a cost effective, appropriate manner and ensure coverage of case load at all times.
- Communicate regularly with patients’ families, referring physicians, specialists, nursing staff and other hospital departments regarding the plan of care and treatment of patients, including within 24 hours of admission, for any major change in a patient’s condition, and within 24 hours prior to discharge. Document medical services in the patient’s medical record in a manner consistent with hospital, payor, and regulatory standards.
- Participate in on-call and weekend coverage, as required by the Department. Participate in value-based reimbursement programs and quality initiatives, as required by the Department.
- Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) / Quality Assurance (QA) and peer review activities as requested. Assist, as requested, in the development of policies and procedures as they related to medical practice and quality patient care.
- Participate in ongoing process improvement activities through the development/application of clinical paths, process improvement and other related activities. Support patient participation in clinical trials and research projects, assess clinical safety and efficacy data, consistent with Research Institute policies.
- Provide oversight, teaching, and mentorship of fellows, residents, APPs (e.g., physician assistants and advance practice registered nurses), and students and others (as appropriate) providing services to patients, including meaningful participation with the affiliated medical schools as requested.
