About the Job

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Neurosciences at the University of Minnesota is seeking a full-time, board-certified/eligible physician to join our collaborative Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus: 3 physicians, 2 optometrists, 5 orthoptists, and support staff. 
 

Position Highlights, Opportunities, & Key Responsibilities include:

  • Enthusiastic pursuit of excellence across our tripartite mission: clinical care, research, and education. 
  • Robust clinical practice: manage pediatric eye disease and adult strabismus within a premier academic health system. One of our current pediatric ophthalmologists (4th in the division) will be vacating a mature practice. The new faculty physician will have a unique opportunity absorb and build this practice. 
  • All of our clinicians practice at our main clinic at UMN, the Minnesota Lions Children’s Eye Clinic, which provides over 11,000 patient visits annually. Additionally, the recruit would spend time at satellite clinics weekly.
  • Our surgeons operate primarily at the nationally ranked UMN Masonic Children’s Hospital and our UMN Clinics and Surgery Center (CSC). 
  • Educating the next generation: provide clinical and surgical instruction of medical students, residents, and fellows. Contribute to developing the pediatric ophthalmology & strabismus curriculum.
  • Engage in scholarly research, presentations, and publications. Represent the department and university on local, regional, national, and international stages. 
  • Participate in faculty development activities. 
  • The recruit will be a member of the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Neurosciences which boasts a strong reputation with subspecialty expertise in all fields of ophthalmology. 

Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree.
  • Graduate of an accredited ACGME Ophthalmology residency
  • Completion of an AAPOS-approved fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus
  • Board eligible/certified with the American Board of Ophthalmology
  • Licensed or ability to obtain the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice Licensure
  • Ability to obtain/maintain DEA certification in the State of Minnesota
  • Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges

About the Department

The missions of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Neurosciences are teaching, research, service and provision of excellent clinical service. Primary academic missions of the department are to teach medical students, post-M.D. trainees (residents and fellows) and students in allied health programs and to advance knowledge in ophthalmology through basic scientific and clinical research endeavors. More at  https://www.ophthalmology.umn.edu/. 

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: This role is dually employed by the University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Physicians. Salary at the University of Minnesota is dependent upon academic effort. Clinical salary will be aligned with clinical effort and provided through University of Minnesota Physicians. Total starting salary would be $275,000 to $350,000 for a full time physician, further adjusted for rank, experience, and clinical volumes. Total salary is competitive with the market and based on AAMC salary benchmarks.  Applicants should complete this application and also an application for a position with the University of Minnesota Physicians.
