OverviewAbout the Position: This position is located in the Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology, Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) is the United States Army's premier medical institution. Located on Fort Sam Houston, BAMC is a 425-bed academic medical center, and is the Department of Defense's largest facility and only Level 1 trauma center. BAMC is also home to the Center for the Intrepid, an outpatient rehabilitation facility. The center is composed of ten separate organizations, including community medical clinics, centered around the Army's largest in-patient hospital. BAMC is staffed by more than 8,000 soldiers, airmen, sailors, civilians, and contractors, providing care to wounded service members and the San Antonio community at large. Brooke Army Medical Center has a history which dates back to 1879 when the first Post Hospital opened as a small medical dispensary located in a single-story wooden building. In 1886, the first permanent hospital was built. In 1908, an 84-bed Station Hospital was constructed on the west side of the post.

ResponsibilitiesAs a Physician (Obstetrics) you will:
- Evaluate a wide range of female pelvic conditions or issues, to include female pain, urinary incontinence, abnormal uterine bleeding, and sexual and reproductive health.
- Perform colposcopy and office and surgical treatments of vaginal and cervical dysplasia to diagnose and treat precancerous abnormal cell growth.
- Interpret diagnostic images and provides consultations on images and examination reports.
- Examine, diagnose and treat the full range of OB/GYN patients, from pediatric to geriatric patients, including evaluation of anatomic abnormalities, pubertal development, sexual and reproductive health, pregnancy, and post-menopausal treatment.
- Provide primary preventive care and education for women seen in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic.
- Work in Labor and Delivery for triage, management of laboring patients, vaginal delivery, operative delivery, cesarian sections, and recognition and management of hypertensive disorders and post-partum hemorrhage.
- Perform on-call duties to provide 24-hour coverage of Labor and Delivery ward, handle emergencies, and answer urgent consultations from other specialties.
- Guide, instruct and train students and other professional personnel in ambulatory OB-GYN care, including policies, procedures and guidelines.

Basic Requirement for Physician (Obstetrics and Gynecology): Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Residency Training: Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled(Obstetrics and Gynecology) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified.

The salary determination process begins after the initial job offer is accepted. This consists of the Activity Compensation Panel adding base pay and market pay to determine your starting salary and this will be provided to you once approved.
