Job Title:Physician - Department of Neurology, Pain Medicine (Open Rank/Track Faculty)

Department:

The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek an outstanding neurologist with fellowship training in Pain Medicine to join the Department of Neurology. Academic rank and track commensurate with the candidate’s academic record and experience.

Position Overview

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center offers a unique environment for developing an innovative academic pain medicine practice. As one of the nation's first institutions to integrate Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neuroscience, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and Psychiatry into a unified Neurological Institute, Ohio State provides exceptional opportunities for multidisciplinary patient care, education, and clinical research.

This position offers the opportunity to develop a comprehensive neurology-based pain medicine practice with outpatient, inpatient, infusion, and interventional treatment capabilities. The successful candidate will serve as a subspecialty expert in the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic pain disorders, particularly those arising from diseases of the central and peripheral nervous systems. Clinical responsibilities include evaluation and treatment of neuropathic pain, headache and facial pain syndromes, radiculopathies, peripheral nerve disorders, complex regional pain syndrome, spinal pain, and other neurologic pain conditions.

The successful candidate will develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans utilizing pharmacologic, behavioral, rehabilitative, and interventional approaches. Responsibilities include performing image-guided and ultrasound-guided pain procedures consistent with the individual's fellowship training, credentialing, and clinical expertise.

The faculty member will actively participate in the department's academic mission by teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers in the evaluation and management of neurologic pain disorders and interventional pain techniques. Opportunities for clinical research, quality improvement, multidisciplinary collaboration, and program development are readily available within the Neurological Institute.

Department/Division Overview
The Department of Neurology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is one of the nation's premier academic neurology programs. The department includes 15 clinical divisions, more than 70 neurologists, 8 neuropsychologists, 15 dedicated research faculty, 24 neurology residents, and 14 clinical fellows.

Our faculty provide comprehensive subspecialty neurological care across eight ambulatory locations and three hospitals, including 33 multidisciplinary specialty clinics, three inpatient consultation services, a 30-bed neurosciences intensive care unit, a dedicated neurocritical care service within The James Cancer Hospital, a comprehensive stroke service, and one of the nation's largest telestroke networks serving 32 affiliated hospitals. Our expanding tele-neurology program provides inpatient neurological consultation to hospitals throughout Ohio.

With over $15.5 million in annual research funding, OSU Neurology is at the forefront of discovering new biomarkers and therapeutic targets for neurological disorders. Our fundamental research portfolio focuses on neurogenetics, neuroimmunology and neurodegenerative medicine. Our pioneering Division of Neurology Health Services Research and Center for the Neurobiology of Aging and Resilience are trailblazers in the field. This year alone, our faculty conducted over 320 clinical trials and studies. Faculty have access to outstanding research infrastructure, including comprehensive clinical research support, a state-of-the-art biorepository, and a rapidly expanding brain bank.

Education is a defining strength of the department. We sponsor 11 ACGME-accredited and non-ACGME fellowship programs, maintain an internationally recognized Global Neurology Initiative, and are committed to developing the next generation of neurologists. The Ohio State Neurology Residency Program is consistently recognized among the nation's leading residency programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive evaluation and management of patients with acute and chronic neurologic pain disorders in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating pharmacologic, behavioral, rehabilitative, infusion-based, and interventional therapies.
  • Perform image-guided and ultrasound-guided interventional pain procedures appropriate to training and credentialing, including peripheral nerve blocks, trigger point injections, occipital nerve blocks, chemodenervation (onabotulinumtoxinA), and other procedures within the candidate's scope of practice.
