The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek an academic Infectious Diseases physician to join the Division of Infectious Diseases/Department of Internal Medicine. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.

Position Overview

The Division of Infectious Diseases is actively recruiting an Infectious Diseases specialist with interest and/or expertise in solid organ transplant (SOT). This position will provide infectious diseases consultative services in the Comprehensive Transplant Center (CTC). The CTC is a top 20 transplant program, by volume, in the United States.

The CTC is comprised of a team of innovative experts who advance research and provide excellent patient care. The CTC performs an average of 600 solid organ transplants each year, including heart, lung, liver, kidney and pancreas transplants.

Additional service opportunities are available on our James Cancer Center team with immunocompromised hosts including bone marrow transplant and the acute leukemia program. The physician will be joining 2 other experienced SOT attendings. The physician will also be expected to maintain a dedicated SOT-only ambulatory care clinic. Physician will participate in the training of Infectious Diseases fellows, housestaff and medical students, as well as advance practice providers and other allied medical professionals. The physician will be expected to participate in scholarly activities (clinical research, quality improvement) and relevant committee work.

Interest/expertise in the management of SOT, immunocompromised patients, particularly those with hematologic malignancies, solid tumors, and those undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is expected. Clinical research experience with this population is preferred.

Division Overview

The Division of Infectious Diseases is led by Division Director Susan L. Koletar, MD and is comprised of 28 faculty, and 4 advanced practice providers. The Division is committed to providing comprehensive patient care, engaging in high quality research and offering innovative medical education to medical students, post-doctoral trainees and professional colleagues. Approximately 8,800 consults were seen last year for patients with a wide range of serious and life-threatening infections. The division has seven consult services: 3 general ID services, 1 transplant (solid organ), 2 James Cancer Center services, and 1 at OSU East Hospital. Our two-year ACGME accredited Fellowship Program prepares trainees to be consultants in infectious diseases, with fundamental training for a career in academic infectious diseases.

The Infectious Diseases Clinical Trials Unit, a National Institutes of Health-designated research site for the treatment of HIV and AIDS, and continuously funded since 1987, anchors a robust research program. Clinical and scholarly activities are enhanced through collaborations with a number of internal and external partners, including the Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity, College of Public Health, Columbus Public Health and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Duties and Responsibilities
-This is an academic position on the clinical track that emphasizes diagnosis and treatment of infections in SOT

-Responds to consultation requests; determines, prescribes and implements treatment plans and/or required medications

-Provides instructional training to fellows, housestaff, medical students and ancillary staff

-Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities


Requirements
- MD, DO or equivalent
- Board certification or eligibility in Infectious Diseases
- Training or experience in Transplant Infectious Diseases is highly desired.
- Must possess or be eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio
- Exceptional critical thinking skills and ability to work independently
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
