The Department of Family and Community Medicine has hosted an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Sports Medicine since 1996, the first program in the Philadelphia region. Our graduates have gone on to start and fill leadership roles in many fellowships in the region and nation. Our graduates are integral team members in the care of high-level collegiate and professional athletes across the country. In addition to our remarkable history, the Sports Medicine Division offers highly sought-after medical student and residency electives.
Excellence in patient care is a core value of the Sports Medicine Division. This extends to the fellowship program which offers training alongside faculty with a strong commitment to clinical excellence and health equity. Our regionally and nationally renowned faculty come from diverse training backgrounds and offer unique perspectives on patient care in general and the care of the athlete specifically.
Our sports medicine team provides a unique service to Jefferson patients. Our practice provides comprehensive services to athletes and those seeking a healthier lifestyle. In addition to musculoskeletal care, we offer individualized nutrition, exercise, and training recommendations. We are also adept at supporting patients to manage their chronic conditions, such as asthma and diabetes, who wish to increase physical activity or maintain high-performance athletic participation. Our sports medicine physicians also work closely with our orthopaedic surgical partners to facilitate appropriate referrals seamlessly for patients.
