Full description

MaineHealth Behavioral Health (MHBH) is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE), fellowship-trained, board-certified Psychiatrist to join the Department of Psychiatry at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Portland (MHMMCP). This role offers a unique hybrid opportunity, combining leadership and clinical practice.

The selected candidate will serve as the General Psychiatry Residency Program Director (0.5 FTE) while also providing psychiatric clinical care (0.5 FTE). This position supports a diverse patient population across both rural and urban communities.

This is an excellent opportunity for a psychiatrist interested in academic leadership, with potential for future involvement in additional academic and/or administrative roles.

The MHMMC General Psychiatry residency program combines the intellectual and physical resources of an academic teaching hospital with the patient base and public health commitment of a large community hospital and community mental health center. In addition to the General Adult Psychiatry Training Track, our residency program offers a General Psychiatry/Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Integrated Training Track, as well as a Rural Psychiatry Training Track. Our care continuum and psychiatry residency training sites also include MaineHealth Behavioral Health at Spring Harbor (a free-standing 100-bed psychiatric hospital) and MaineHealth Behavioral Health, a region-wide comprehensive mental health organization. MHMMCP also includes the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital, the state's only pediatric tertiary care center and only Level 1 Trauma Center.

MHMMC has an academic affiliation with Tufts University School of Medicine and offers the best aspects of patient care and academic stimulation. Residents are involved in teaching medical students from Tufts and from the nearby University of New England. Residents are also actively involved in department governance and decision-making, participating in department retreats and quality improvement projects, and having formal representation on departmental committees.

We are very interested in furthering the practice of psychiatry in New England - particularly in Maine. We have special options for rural psychiatry rotations while offering community-based training experiences in Portland. We are proud of our program and take great pleasure in the success of our graduating residents.

MHMMC is a nationally recognized academic medical center with an impressive history of outstanding and innovative residency and fellowship programs. MHMMC is approved to train over 400 trainees in our 17 ACGME-accredited residency programs, 19 ACGME-accredited fellowship programs, two rural tracks and rural concentration. We have a culture of continuous quality improvement and our performance in the areas of safety, quality, and satisfaction are consistently excellent. Physicians are expected to apply for faculty appointment to the Tufts University School of Medicine.

The Program Director has full responsibility, authority, and accountability for program administration and operations; teaching and scholarly activity; resident recruitment and selection; evaluation, promotion, and discipline; supervision; and faculty development. The Program Director is charged with developing and maintaining a training plan aligned with ACGME Common and Program-Specific Requirements and ensuring that all aspects of the program meet accreditation standards. There are robust opportunities to grow and develop teaching experiences and work with both residents and medical students.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Graduate of Allopathic or Osteopathic Medical School. Completion of internship and psychiatric residency and/or fellowship training

* Current or eligible licensure as a physician by the Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine

* Current certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) or by the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry

* Current DEA Registration Certificate

* Psychiatry specialty expertise and at least three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience

This position offers:

* Competitive compensation package including sign-on bonus, relocation assistance, CME expense reimbursement, and malpractice insurance.

* Benefits include Paid Time Off, CME time, retirement with employer match, medical, dental, vision, life/disability insurance, paid family leave, wellness program, and more.

Total compensation packages may include, based on eligibility, recruitment payments, relocation assistance, productivity incentives and quality incentives.

The annual base salary for this position is $322,500 - $345,000
