About the Role
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join the Division of Psychiatry within the Department of Pediatric Medicine.
This is a clinically focused faculty position within a multidisciplinary pediatric oncology setting. The role offers the opportunity to provide longitudinal, team-based psychiatric care to children, adolescents, and young adults with serious medical illness.
This position is particularly well suited for a child psychiatrist who values thoughtful, relationship-based care, close interdisciplinary collaboration, and meaningful clinical work within an academic medical environment that prioritizes patient care and education.

Clinical Environment
The Division of Psychiatry partners closely with a robust psychosocial team that includes psychology, neuropsychology, social work, child life, music therapy, spiritual care, and case management, alongside oncology, hematology, infectious disease, and other pediatric subspecialties.
Psychiatric care at St. Jude reflects the full breadth of child and adolescent psychiatry within a medically complex setting, including:
• Adjustment to illness, anxiety, mood, and trauma-related concerns
• Neurocognitive and developmental effects of illness and treatment
• Psychopharmacologic care in the context of complex medical illness
• Longitudinal support for patients and families across extended treatment courses
Because many patients and families remain in Memphis for months or years during treatment, psychiatrists are able to develop continuity of care and sustained therapeutic relationships—something that is often limited in traditional consult-liaison models.
Care is delivered collaboratively, with shared responsibility across disciplines. Psychiatrists are supported in navigating the emotional complexity of this work within a strong, team-oriented culture.

Faculty Track & Academic Setting
This position is part of St. Jude’s Clinical Faculty Track, which is designed for physicians whose primary professional identity is clinical care and teaching.
Faculty in this track devote the majority of their effort to direct patient care, with flexibility to engage in:
• Clinical education and mentorship
• Quality improvement initiatives
• Program development
• Clinically relevant scholarship aligned with individual interests
This is not a grant-driven research position, and independent research funding is not required. Scholarly work is supported when it grows naturally out of clinical or educational interests.
Teaching opportunities include bedside and interdisciplinary teaching, trainee supervision, and participation in seminars and conferences at St. Jude and affiliated institutions.

Professional Growth & Support
• High degree of autonomy in clinical decision making
• Supportive leadership and opportunities to help shape a growing service
• Participation in committees, quality initiatives, and institutional efforts
• Support for national meetings and ongoing professional development
• Opportunities for broader academic engagement based on individual interests
• Collaboration within a small, specialized psychiatry team
• External peer connection through regular meetings with psychiatrists in pediatric oncology and support for individual mentorship
Prior experience in pediatric oncology is welcome but not required. Interest in learning within this setting, comfort with interdisciplinary care, and a collaborative approach are most important.

About St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
St. Jude is the only National Cancer Institute–designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children and is internationally recognized for excellence in pediatric oncology care and research. Care provided at St. Jude is delivered to patients and families without charge.
The culture at St. Jude emphasizes collaboration, respect, and shared commitment to advancing care for children and their families. Clinicians, researchers, and educators work closely together in an environment that values both professional excellence and sustainability.
St. Jude has been named one of Fortune Magazine’s “100 Best Places to Work For” for more than a decade.

Life in Memphis
Memphis offers a cost of living that allows physicians to live comfortably, with short commutes, distinctive neighborhoods, and a strong sense of community. Many faculty appreciate the ability to balance meaningful clinical work with family life, creative pursuits, and time outside of work.
The city is known for its music and food culture, has extensive green space and biking trails, and offers the financial advantage of no state income tax. Relocation assistance is available.
The St. Jude community also includes a highly collaborative group of clinicians and researchers with strong connections to national and international academic networks.

Qualifications
• MD or DO (or equivalent)
• Completion of ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship
• Board-certified or board-eligible in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
• Eligible for Tennessee medical licensure
• Fellows in their final year of training are encouraged to apply
