Full description

The VAPAHCS MSICU has an ongoing need for 24/7 in-house ICU team coverage. Currently the night coverage is provided by a combination of residents, ICU Nurse Practitioners, and moonlighting fellows. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. VHA Physician Total Rewards. Intermittent/Per Diem Schedule: 12-hour shifts - nights, evening, weekends, and holidays. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases. Note: The salary shown is based on a Full-Time work schedule. Your actual pay will be dependent on the number of hours you work as an intermittent employee. Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement). Note: Only if employee is expected to work 130 hours or more per month for 90 days. Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Major duties include but are not limited to: Admitting and caring for up to 15 MSICU patients, a combination of medical, general surgical, and subspecialty surgical patients. Responding as part of the Emergency Response Team (eTeam) to codes and eTeam (rapid response) calls. Coordinating with the emergency department, floor teams, charge nurse, and nursing supervisor regarding patients needing assessment for admission or transfer to the MSICU. Initiating ICU Consult services pending availability of the on-call fellow. Performing procedures necessary for clinical care and within the provider's established competence including (but not limited to) central lines, arterial lines, and ventilator management. The MSICU is a multidisciplinary team and unit so the MSICU provider will also interact with and provide critical care expertise and training, as appropriate, with other members of the team. Professional and respectful interactions with all team members, staff, patients, and families are expected. U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Subject to background/security investigation. Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process. Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). The Department of Veterans Affairs performs pre-employment reference checks as an assessment method used in the hiring process to verify information provided by a candidate (e.g., on resume or during interview or hiring process); gain additional knowledge regarding a candidate's abilities; and assist a hiring manager with making a final selection for a position. Veterans' Preference Note: Preference eligible candidates and other Veterans will be given preference when qualification of candidates are approximately equal for Title 38 positions in VHA.
