GEC provides access to specialty Geriatrics and team-based care through multiple programs and collaborations within and throughout the health care system. Principle GEC programs include Home Based Primary Care (HBPC), Geriatrics Clinics (GeriPACT), and Palliative Care. HBPC is the largest program with five clinical teams performing home visits to over 400 home-bound veterans. The Medical Director will: Understand, manage, and report data related to/from HBPC (local and national) Provide supervision of nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and trainees performing direct patient care. Serve as a member of the GEC Leaders Group (meeting monthly and ad hoc) Work closely with HBPC Program Coordinator, HBPC Nurse Manager, and HBPC Program Support Assistants on overall program management and response to changes and monitoring Serve as Chair of HBPC Steering Committee and HBPC Monthly meetings Lead and assist with HBPC program development including strategic planning, program leadership, quality improvement, quality assurance, continuous survey readiness, and committee/work groups in collaboration with others Understand, manage, and assist with review and revision of HBPC Policy to ensure compliance with VHA guidance Assist with response and management of Action Items related to HBPC Assist with response and management of emergencies as it relates to HBPC Supervise and evaluate all HBPC clinical providers in and serve as one local point of contact and subject matter expert as it relates to home and community based care services for Veterans Maintain licensures and certifications requisite for credentials and privileges at the Columbus VA at all times Meet ethical and professional standards as written in the Medical Staff Bylaws and ensure that work relations are in compliance with facility standards and expectations as written and communicated Other duties or cross-coverage as assigned by the GEC Chief including coverage of GEC clinics and GEC Chief if and when the Chief is unavailable. Work Schedule: Monday through Frida; 8:00 am to 4:30 pm U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. This position is considered an incidental driver. A current, valid state-issued Driver's License is required for this position. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs, therefore; please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. If an interview is requested, you will be required to provide a copy of your current, valid state-issued Driver's License. A clean driving record report from the DMV and a copy of your driver's license will be required during the online onboarding process. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Subject to background/security investigation. Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process. Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents). Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment. Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation/examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). You may be required to serve a probationary period.
