Additional Job Description West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Pathology, Anatomy and Laboratory Medicine are seeking an academic board-certified or board-eligible pathologist for an open-rank faculty position with specialty expertise in liver transplant pathology and additional interest or expertise in gastrointestinal/hepatobiliary pathology and/or transplant pathology. The successful candidate will practice in Morgantown, West Virginia, and will join a collegial, subspecialized academic pathology department serving a large and growing health system. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a robust academic practice with expanding clinical programs, active multidisciplinary collaboration, and strong institutional support for subspecialty pathology. The successful candidate will participate in the diagnostic evaluation of liver transplant specimens and related hepatobiliary pathology, while also contributing to additional subspecialty service areas based on training, expertise, and departmental needs. The role is well suited for a pathologist seeking a clinically meaningful academic position with opportunities for teaching, program development, multidisciplinary engagement, and scholarly activity. Duties: Responsibilities include diagnostic sign-out within a subspecialized practice model, with emphasis on liver transplant pathology and complementary service responsibilities in gastrointestinal/hepatobiliary pathology and/or transplant pathology. The faculty member will be expected to participate actively in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows, and to contribute to the academic mission of the department through teaching, clinical service, collaboration, and, where appropriate, research or other scholarly work. Qualifications: Applicants must have an MD, DO, or foreign equivalent degree and be eligible for medical licensure in the State of West Virginia. Candidates must have completed an accredited pathology residency program and fellowship training in gastrointestinal/hepatobiliary pathology, transplant pathology, or a closely related area relevant to liver transplant pathology. Candidates must be board certified or board eligible in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment. About the Department: WVU PALM is a diverse and expanding team of over 40 faculty specializing in all areas of anatomic and clinical pathology as well as laboratory medicine and anatomical sciences. Clinical services are supported by advanced Digital Pathology and Telepathology systems, and state-of-the-art ancillary testing (IHC, cytogenetics, FISH, NGS) is performed onsite. Faculty research activities are supported by the PALM Tissue Bank, Research Histology Lab, Brain Bank and the Rapid Development Laboratory. The Department serves West Virginia University Hospitals, the premier regional referral center for West Virginia and parts of Pennsylvania and Maryland. The institution offers a collaborative professional environment, advanced technology, and highly regarded clinical programs. The WVU Medicine Transplant Alliance is West Virginia's first and only multi-organ transplant center. WVU Transplant Alliance completed its first heart transplant in 2019 and kidney transplant in 2020.
