Full description

Overview The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (DPLM) at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) affiliated with the DPLM of The Ohio State University College of Medicine seeks an academic anatomic pathologist at the level of assistant, associate or full professor to join one of the largest pediatric pathology and laboratory medicine departments in the U.S. The successful candidate will join an experienced professional staff of approximately 30 pathologists and doctoral scientists. Qualifications include board certification in anatomic pathology; certification or eligibility in pediatric pathology will be an asset. The successful applicant should be accomplished or willing to develop expertise in Neuropathology, Autopsy and Perinatal Pathology or other areas of surgical pathology. Our digital pathology program went live fully in 2024 with the opportunity for digital review and sign-out of all surgical pathology and autopsy cases, and the potential for intradepartmental consultation. This is a 100% on site position. The DPLM accessions over 9,000 surgical specimens, over 1,200 cytology specimens and performs around 90 autopsies and around 75 placenta/fetopsies examinations per year. Anatomic Pathologists are currently supported by a team of four (4) Pathologists’ Assistants and one (1) gross technician. There is close collaboration between AP and IGM; AP faculty participate in assessment of the material submitted for clinical molecular testing from patients enrolled in COG (Children’s Oncology Group) protocols nationwide, as well as material submitted for the national molecular characterization initiative (MCI) for solid tumors. The position will provide assistance to the Department’s anatomic pathology laboratory, active learning curriculum for residents, graduate students, pathology fellows, and consultative services and Outreach Program. Ensures that services and practices fulfill clinical care requirements. Performs and analyzes quality improvement projects. Contributes to appropriate local and national professional organizations through activities such as serving on committees and giving presentations at annual meetings. Represents on hospital and medical staff committees. Offers expertise to daily activities including sample analysis, procedure writing, problem resolution, complex workups, information services, outpatient phlebotomy, referral testing, marketing, and customer service.
