The Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine seeks an accomplished Surgeon-Scientist to serve as Vice Chair for Research.

We seek an established clinician-scientist with an independent research program, a strong record of scholarly productivity and extramural funding, and the vision and leadership skills to help advance the Department's research enterprise. Candidates from all otolaryngology subspecialties and areas of scientific investigation are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will maintain and grow an independent research program and clinical practice while providing strategic leadership for the Department's research mission. Responsibilities will include mentoring faculty and trainees, fostering multidisciplinary collaborations, developing new research initiatives, and expanding the Department's portfolio of externally funded research and clinical investigation.

Research interests may encompass basic, translational, clinical, outcomes, population science, technology, or surgical innovation relevant to otolaryngology and head and neck surgery.

The Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery is committed to continued growth of its research enterprise. Our faculty, residents, students, and research collaborators participate in a broad range of clinical, translational, and investigative programs.

The Vice Chair for Research will play a central role in shaping the Department's research strategy, strengthening its research infrastructure and mentorship programs, developing interdisciplinary collaborations, and increasing the quality, impact, and extramural support of departmental research.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

  • MD, MD/PhD, DO, or equivalent degree
  • Completion of an accredited Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery training program
  • Board certification in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery
  • Academic accomplishments appropriate for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level
  • An established independent research program
  • A strong record of peer-reviewed scholarship and extramural research funding
  • Demonstrated success in scientific collaboration and research program development
  • A commitment to mentorship and development of faculty and trainees
  • The leadership skills and vision necessary to grow the Department's research enterprise
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Pennsylvania
