She/he provides comprehensive care for patients who have illnesses within the scope of Orthopedic Care. The scope of these activities covers hospitalized patients and all phases of ambulatory care. The orthopedic physician is expected to remain privileged and practicing in their specialty field. The exact privileges and procedures for a particular provider will be approved by the Professional Standards Board. The orthopedic physician shall be able to perform standard and intermediate surgical operations, as defined by VHA guidelines. The incumbent shall be able to manage inpatient and outpatient surgical consults and perform preoperative and postoperative patient care. The Surgeon shall maintain hospital admitting privileges and be able to manage inpatient and outpatient standard and intermediate surgical patients.
