The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Department of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology, is recruiting an Assistant Professor position with a focus on neuroendocrine tumors and biomarker-driven therapeutic development in gastrointestinal cancers, including pancreatic, biliary tract, and neuroendocrine malignancies. Candidates with demonstrated expertise in neuroendocrine tumors and biomarker-driven therapeutic development are highly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will contribute to research programs focused on improving the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gastrointestinal and neuroendocrine cancers through innovative clinical and translational research. The position offers significant opportunities for professional growth within a collaborative environment of clinicians, physician-scientists, and laboratory investigators spanning the full spectrum of translational research. Work closely with multidisciplinary research teams and participate in ongoing departmental research initiatives aimed at improving outcomes for patients with gastrointestinal malignancies through innovative clinical trials, biomarker development, and translational research These efforts address diseases that represent major sources of cancer-related morbidity and mortality in the United States. The candidate will have protected time to lead and develop research programs, conduct clinical and translational research, and pursue scholarly activities aligned with departmental priorities. The successful candidate is expected to establish and lead an independently funded research program focused on clinically significant challenges in gastrointestinal malignancies, with particular emphasis on precision oncology, therapeutic development, and the identification and validation of predictive and prognostic biomarkers. The selected candidate will pursue appropriate funding mechanisms to support laboratory and/or clinical research and will contribute to the academic mission of the department through mentorship of junior faculty, fellows, and trainees. Responsibilities include Research, Clinical care, Administrative activities, Education, and Service. Candidates must have an M.D. with board eligibility or board certified in a relevant oncology specialty. Board certification must be obtained within the departmental timeline if not already certified. Candidates must hold, or be eligible for, a Texas medical license and have at least two (2) years at the Instructor level or five (5) years of post-clinical degree experience as a clinician, clinical scientist, and/or GME trainee. Candidates must show evidence of commitment to scholarly activity and evidence of meaningful contributions to clinical and translational research in gastrointestinal cancers and related malignancies. The position requires an accomplished clinical investigator with expertise in developing and leading large-scale clinical trials and translational research programs. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated success securing external research funding, integrating clinical, laboratory, and computational research approaches, and producing impactful scholarly contributions that advance the field of gastrointestinal oncology. This position has a target base salary of $320,145 to $419,518 and is eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable.
