Clinical management and organization of Gynecologic assessment and preparation of patients for surgery. Initial evaluation and overall workup, H&P, and admission of GYN surgery patients. Informs veterans to the risks as well as benefits of upcoming surgical procedures. Performs gynecology procedures. Enter notes electronically in a paperless medical record system. Provision of appropriate post-operative care. Management of patients in the emergency department, inpatient units, medical imaging departments, and ICU. Provides occasional consultative services to other service providers for inpatients and outpatients. Works effectively with patients and coworkers. Treats Veterans, Veteran's Family Members, and other healthcare professionals with respect and dignity. Supervision of Advanced Practice Nurses, Physician Assistants (mid-levels) and other staff as required. Participation in peer review and quality improvement activities is required to ensure quality of patient care consistent with VA regulations and Joint Commission standards. Member of several standing committees including but not limited to Surgical Service Morbidity and Mortality Committee. Understands and abides by the Medical Bylaws of this facility. Performs other administrative duties as assigned by the Chief of Surgery. It is estimated that the general surgeon's position will be approximately 70% clinical and 30% administrative.
