Preferred experience includes completion of a transplant nephrology fellowship or prior experience in autonomous management of renal transplant patients. The position will include ambulatory pre-transplant evaluations, ambulatory post-transplant management, and oversight of the renal transplant program with support from advanced practice providers. There will be some expectations to cover the inpatient nephrology service intermittently, with support of advanced practice providers or nephrology fellows. Clinical activity will be focused on the transplant program at the Dallas VA Medical Center, but there will be opportunity to be involved in the transplant program at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Specific nephrology duties include: outpatient clinic pre-transplant evaluation of chronic kidney disease patients; outpatient post-transplant management of kidney transplant patients including prescription and monitoring of oral and intravenous immunosuppression; administrative oversight of renal transplant program and advanced practice providers; inpatient consultation history and physical examination, consultation daily progress notes for patients with acute kidney, chronic kidney disease, electrolyte abnormalities, resistant hypertension, end-stage renal disease, and status post kidney transplant; management of chronic kidney disease patients; order and perform TPA infusion, evaluation and treatment of patients in renal clinic and the dialysis unit including writing of dialysis orders and use of erythropoietin stimulating agents, intravenous iron, and intravenous vitamin D medications; placement or supervision of individuals placing non-tunneled dialysis catheters. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
