Full description

The Transplant Nephrologist provides nephrology care, educates trainees, and maintains effective professional relationships to support high-quality patient care. Physicians must hold an MD/DO from a VA-approved school, complete an ACGME residency, and maintain an unrestricted U.S. license. Board eligibility/certification in Internal Medicine and Nephrology is required. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. VHA Physician Total Rewards. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Major duties and responsibilities for Physician but not limited to: Provides quality, patient-centered care for adults age 18-65 and older adults age 65+, focusing on kidney diseases, end-stage renal disease, and kidney transplantation as assigned by the Chief, Medical Service. Serves as staff attending for the Transplant Nephrology consult service as assigned and participates in the Transplant Nephrology peer review process when requested. Completes all medical record documentation, encounters, and trainee supervision attestations in the electronic medical record within prescribed timeframes; documents and rates administrative and clinical information thoroughly and accurately. Participates in the formal education of residents and medical students by presenting teaching rounds, lectures, and conferences focused on nephrology and kidney transplantation. Assists in the development and implementation of education and training programs for medical students and residents rotating through the Medical Service's accountable Transplant Nephrology Clinical Services. Provides guidance, support, and supervision to nurse practitioners, medical students, and residents (interns, residents, and/or fellows) assigned to Transplant Nephrology and related subspecialty services and clinics, according to facility standards and as assigned by the Chief, Medical Service. Revises work schedules and assignments to meet frequent, abrupt, and unpredictable changes in prescribed workloads and deadlines to meet patient care, healthcare, and agency needs. Follows agency and Service-level expectations for time/attendance and modification of clinical duties for planned leave. Supports the medical center-wide research mission, especially as it relates to nephrology and kidney transplant care and encourages research participation among other staff members. Assists in conducting studies regarding nephrology and kidney transplant treatment modalities, outcomes, and other aspects of patient care when appropriate. Work Schedule: Variable work schedule; specific hours will be discussed during the interview process U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation/examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). You may be required to serve a probationary period. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Department of Veterans Affairs performs pre-employment reference checks as an assessment method used in the hiring process to verify information provided by a candidate (e.g., on resume or during interview or hiring process); gain additional knowledge regarding a candidate's abilities; and assist a hiring manager with making a final selection for a position. Veterans' Preference Note: Preference eligible candidates and other Veterans will be given preference when qualification of candidates are approximately equal for Title 38 positions in VHA.
