The Physician will manage patients with ongoing hematological/oncological medical conditions, in collaboration with other services/sections of the Fredericksburg Health Care Center (FxHCC). The provider is accountable to the FxHCC Medicine Section Chief, assuring the most effective delivery of care. This position reports directly to the FxHCC Medicine Section Chief and will be expected to work closely in conjunction with the Medicine leadership of the parent facility, Richmond VA Medical Center, to ensure collaboration and alignment to reach collective goals of Central Virginia VA Health Care System. Provide state-of-the-art outpatient care to hematology/oncology patients which includes new consultations, initiation and management of chemotherapy, maintaining proficiency with appropriate procedures required for the care of such patients, and follow-up care of such patients. Manage chronic medical problems and preventive medicine such as management of problems specific to hematology /oncology patients. Interviews, examines, selects diagnostic testing appropriately, and interprets/collects results to coordinate patient care. Communicates and documents with clarity to patients and medical personnel to coordinate patient care. Supervision of Physicians including annual proficiency rating and determination of pay for performance. Monitoring of clinical competence of staff through FPPE and OPPE completion. Participate in the educational programs for the section personnel as well as the medical staff. Participate in monitoring the quality safety and appropriateness of patient care both at the section and facility level. Miscellaneous activities of the FxHCC Medicine Section inclusive but not limited to special projects that enhance the mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs as assigned by the FxHCC Medicine Section Chief FxHCC Director of Clinical Services and Executive Leadership. Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization. Work Schedule: Full Time; Monday - Friday 8:00am-4:30pm U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
