Hospitals vary with open and closed ICU:

Physicians start their day with a rounding list and are asked to be in the hospital by 8:30am. Once rounds are complete, they are free to leave. Different locations have different times that you cover the pager. Typically, pages roll to admit at 1700. There are about 4 admit shifts a month. Admits are from 7-7. If you do not have primary code coverage, you do not have to stay in-house.
