Hospitalist - Gut Failure Program Location: Emory University Hospital | Atlanta, GA Organization: Division of Hospital Medicine, Emory University School of Medicine Position Type: Full-Time Academic Faculty Position Overview Emory University Hospital invites qualified Internal Medicine physicians to apply for a full-time academic faculty position within the Division of Hospital Medicine. Hospitalists in this role will play a central role in establishing and advancing a specialized Gut Failure Program , designed to deliver coordinated, high-quality care for patients with high-acuity gastrointestinal conditions, short bowel syndrome, and complex surgical/medical needs. This opportunity is ideal for a physician who excels in high-acuity academic hospital medicine, values interdisciplinary collaboration, and seeks dedicated clinical time to build subspecialty expertise. Practice Structure: 50% Specialized Gut Failure / 50% Hospital Medicine This role offers a balanced clinical portfolio combining focused subspecialty involvement with general inpatient medicine: 50% Dedicated Gut Failure Service: Provide direct medical management for gut failure and complex GI patients, develop clinical pathways, and drive program development and quality improvement initiatives. 50% Core Academic Hospital Medicine: Rotate across standard inpatient hospitalist services, maintaining a comprehensive broad-spectrum internal medicine skill set. Key Responsibilities & Clinical Scope Interdisciplinary Care: Co-manage complex gut failure patients in equal partnership with General Surgery, Gastroenterology, APPs, nursing, clinical nutrition, psychology, and social work. Program Development: Contribute to establishing clinical models, standardized care pathways, and operational workflows for the new service line. Clinical Spectrum: Manage high-acuity conditions including short bowel syndrome, intestinal failure, complex enterocutaneous fistulas, abdominal wall reconstructions, complicated pancreatitis, and GI hemorrhage. Academic & Safety Initiatives: Drive quality improvement (QI) projects focused on clinical outcomes and patient safety; participate in clinical education, resident/fellow mentorship, and scholarly activity. Practice Environment: Emory University Hospital Emory University Hospital (EUH) is a 750+ bed quaternary academic medical center staffed entirely by faculty physicians representing more than 70 subspecialties. Qualifications Required Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). Active Georgia medical license (or eligible to obtain Georgia licensure). Demonstrated history of effective teaching, supervision, and interdisciplinary collaboration in an inpatient setting. Preferred Clinical experience in a high-acuity academic medical center. Prior experience or strong interest in complex GI care, surgical co-management, or total parenteral nutrition (TPN) management. Background in clinical program development, quality improvement, or medical education. Compensation & Benefits Competitive Base Salary supplemented by performance-based incentive opportunities.
