Description

Job Summary

The ETSU Department of Internal Medicine seeks a board-certified/board-eligible Infectious Disease/Critical Care Physician to join our growing academic division. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient infectious disease care, participate in inpatient critical care services, educate medical students, residents, and fellows, and contribute to scholarly activity aligned with the academic mission of the institution.

The position features a rotating schedule of one week (7 days) of inpatient Critical Care service, one week (7 days) off, and two weeks of combined inpatient and outpatient Infectious Disease practice per month.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient Infectious Disease care, consultation, diagnosis, and management of complex infectious diseases across affiliated hospitals and ambulatory clinics.
  • Serve as an attending physician on Critical Care services, providing management of critically ill patients, performing procedures consistent with training and hospital privileges, and participating in Infectious Disease and Critical Care call coverage.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement evidence-based, patient-centered treatment plans and support antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Teach, supervise, mentor, and evaluate medical students, residents, fellows, and other learners through clinical instruction, didactic lectures, conferences, simulation activities, and curriculum development.
  • Engage in scholarly activity through clinical, translational, or outcomes research, including publications, presentations, grant development, and collaboration with interdisciplinary investigators.
  • Participate in divisional, departmental, institutional, and professional committees; contribute to program development, strategic initiatives, community outreach, and continuing medical education.

Required Qualifications
  • Medical Degree (MD, DO, or MBBS) from an accredited institution
  • Successful completion of an Infectious Diseases/Critical Care fellowship from an ACGME-accredited program (at time of hire)
  • Board Certified in Infectious Diseases/Critical Care or Board Eligible in Infectious Diseases/Critical Care (at time of interview)


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in medical education and academic medicine
  • Interest in research, quality improvement, or program development
