Experienced Acute Care Surgeon with leadership role as Associate Trauma Director Hartford Hospital | Hartford, Connecticut Join one of the Northeast's premier academic Acute Care Surgery programs. Hartford Hospital, an 867-bed tertiary care academic medical center in Hartford, Connecticut, is seeking an experienced, board-certified Acute Care Surgeon to join our nationally recognized and expanding Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, and Emergency General Surgery. This opportunity is specifically designed for a seasoned surgeon seeking a long-term role within a highly collaborative, academically driven, and clinically advanced Acute Care Surgery program at or able to attain the level of associate professor. We are seeking a physician interested not only in clinical excellence, but also in mentorship, teaching, program development, and partnership within a mature, high-functioning surgical department. Affiliated with the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Hartford Hospital is an American College of Surgeons (ACS)-verified Level I Trauma Center serving a regional catchment area of more than 1.5 million people. As part of Hartford HealthCare's integrated nine-hospital system, Hartford Hospital offers the resources, infrastructure, and stability of one of the Northeast's leading health care organizations. About the Acute Care Surgery Program The division of Acute Care Surgery provides comprehensive multidisciplinary care across trauma surgery, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery within one of the busiest surgical hospitals in the region. Program Highlights Nationally recognized ACS Level I Trauma Center with a long-standing reputation for innovation and leadership in trauma care. Supported by the LIFE STAR helicopter EMS program , established by Dr. Lenworth Jacobs. Historic contributions to nationally recognized trauma initiatives, including The originator of the ATOM course . Established the Hartford Consensus , which led to the Stop the Bleed course . Annual clinical volume includes 2,600+ trauma activations 1,100+ surgical ICU admissions 1,500+ emergency general surgery operations Collaborative faculty of 14 Acute Care Surgeons with continued strategic growth underway. Mature multidisciplinary infrastructure with strong APP, ICU, and specialty support. Home to four Surgical Critical Care fellowship positions , including three AAST-approved two-year Acute Care Surgery fellowship positions . Active collaboration with the Chest Wall Injury Society and national trauma organizations. This position offers the opportunity to join a highly collegial division where experienced surgeons play an integral role in mentorship, quality initiatives, operational leadership, and the continued evolution of the service line. Academic Leadership, Innovation, and Research Hartford Hospital serves as a major academic hub within the University of Connecticut surgical training system and offers extensive opportunities for surgeons interested in education, innovation, and clinical research. Academic Environment Primary teaching site for the University of Connecticut General Surgery Residency Program . Active involvement in resident, fellow, medical student, and APP education . Faculty research presentations at national meetings, including EAST, AAST, and the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress . Access to the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI) , one of the most advanced simulation centers worldwide. Training programs include ATLS, ATOM, ASSET, and APP procedural boot camps. Strong institutional support for investigator-led research, quality improvement, and health systems innovation . Innovation Initiatives The division works closely with Hartford HealthCare's Innovation Institute on emerging technologies and clinical advancement initiatives, including: AI-driven hypotension prediction models in the surgical ICU . Virtual reality applications for rib fracture visualization and operative planning. Systemwide initiatives focused on the responsible integration of artificial intelligence into surgical and critical care practice. Creation of a novel hospital-based violence intervention program database. Collaboration with the Ukrainian Ministry of Health to establish a training paradigm for general surgeons to trauma surgeon program. Collaborations with MIT and Harvard Medical School.
