It is called both "the Emerald City" and "the Lakelands" due to its desirable climate and the numerous lakes in close proximity. It offers year-round golf, seasonal watersports and excellent hunting and fishing opportunities. Self Regional Healthcare is a non-profit hospital, is the region's largest employer and enjoys the benefit of a large, private endowment ensuring its financial solvency. It provides care to the residents of Greenwood, Abbeville, Laurens, Saluda, McCormick, Edgefield and Newberry Counties.
