The Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) is seeking a dynamic physician leader to serve as our next Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs. Our Department aims to be the premier academic department of emergency medicine renowned globally for education, unrivaled patient-centered care, pioneering research, and for developing the next generation of leaders in medicine.
The Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs provides executive leadership over the Department’s clinical enterprise. This critical role provides leadership and oversight over clinical operations, physician management, and financial stewardship across all clinical sites.
Partnering with leaders throughout our Department and hospital system, the Vice Chair drives operational strategy, optimizes care delivery, improves patient access, enhances patient experience, and implements innovative care models to optimize clinical outcomes and achieve operational excellence. Additionally, the role collaborates with our Department’s Associate Vice Chair for Quality and Safety on patient safety initiatives while directly mentoring and guiding our individual Emergency Department Medical Director teams.
As a highly visible senior leader, the Vice Chair regularly collaborates with key stakeholders—including Departmental faculty, hospital system administrators, state and local partners, and others— to prioritize key initiatives, allocate resources, and ensure consistent delivery of unrivaled, high-quality, exemplary patient care.
