Full description

The Interventional Cardiologist at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center is responsible for providing comprehensive cardiovascular care to veterans. This includes performing diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures, managing pre- and post-procedure care, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest quality of patient care. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the latest interventional cardiology techniques and a commitment to education and research. Duties to include: 1. Clinical Care: Perform interventional procedures such as angioplasty, stenting, and other catheter-based treatments to address coronary artery disease and other cardiovascular conditions. Provide comprehensive cardiovascular evaluations and consultations. Manage acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions for veteran patients. Interpret cardiac imaging studies, including echocardiograms, stress tests, and catheterizations. 2. Patient Management: Oversee the care of patients before, during, and after interventional procedures. Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient assessments and evidence-based guidelines. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including primary care physicians, surgeons, and nurses, to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care. Provide patient and family education regarding disease management, treatment options, and preventive measures. 3. Procedural Expertise: Maintain proficiency in the latest interventional cardiology techniques and technologies. Ensure all procedures are performed in accordance with established protocols and standards. Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives related to interventional cardiology services. 4. Education and Training: Serve as a mentor and educator to medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals. Participate in continuing medical education (CME) to maintain and enhance clinical skills. Engage in teaching activities within the medical center and affiliated academic institutions. 5. Research: Contribute to clinical research initiatives focused on advancing the field of interventional cardiology. Participate in the design, implementation, and dissemination of research studies. Collaborate with other researchers to promote evidence-based practices within the cardiology department 6. Administrative Responsibilities: Attend and participate in departmental and medical center meetings. Contribute to the development of policies and protocols to improve cardiovascular care. Maintain accurate and complete medical records in compliance with VA standards. Participate in peer review and other quality improvement activities. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Contact vhaedrpprogramsupport@va.gov , the EDRP Coordinator for questions/assistance Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 0700-1530, 0730-1600 or 0800-1630 U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
