SUMMARY

MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor in Benign Hematology to join our collaborative team within the Department of Pulmonary Medicine, Division of Internal Medicine. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a highly specialized consultative service dedicated to the diagnosis and management of complex, non-malignant blood disorders in patients undergoing cancer care. The position plays a vital role in supporting cancer treatment outcomes and delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care within one of the nation's leading academic cancer centers.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

The Benign Hematology program is deeply integrated across the institution, partnering closely with multidisciplinary oncology teams to manage hematologic complications that arise throughout the cancer care continuum. Faculty provide expert consultation for disorders of bleeding, thrombosis, platelets, red blood cells, and white blood cells, helping optimize treatment delivery, reduce complications, and improve long-term survivorship.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Service (80%)

• Provide comprehensive, high-quality care for patients with benign hematologic disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings, as appropriate.
• Develop and maintain a clinical consultative practice within the Section of Benign Hematology.
• Perform complete patient evaluations and procedures consistent with the physician's training and subspecialty.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered care.
• Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation in accordance with institutional policies.
• Communicate effectively with referring physicians and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
• Remain current with advances in Benign Hematology through continuing medical education and professional development.
• Serve as a clinical role model and mentor for fellows, residents, and medical students.
• Participate in peer review and quality improvement initiatives.
• Represent the Section of Benign Hematology at local, regional, and national professional meetings, as appropriate.

Administration (5%)

• Participate in departmental, divisional, and institutional committees and contribute to academic and administrative initiatives.

Research (5%)

• Develop and participate in clinical research and scholarly activities that support the mission and strategic goals of the Department.
• Contribute to the advancement of Benign Hematology through collaborative research and academic scholarship.

Education (10%)

• Foster a collaborative educational environment for fellows, residents, and medical students.
• Participate in departmental conferences, educational programs, and continuing medical education activities.
• Mentor trainees and support the academic mission of the Department.

EDUCATION & LICENSURE:

• M.D., D.O., or M.D./Ph.D.
• Eligible for or licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas
• Board certified or board eligible in Hematology (or obtained within departmental timeline)

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 5 years of post-degree experience, including clinical practice, research, or GME training (exceptions may apply for specialties with shorter training pathways)
