This role is ideally suited for physicians trained in Emergency Medicine, or those with backgrounds in Family Practice or Internal Medicine who possess significant Emergency Medicine experience. **This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCMENT and will remain open until July 13th, 2026. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be May 19th, 2026, with subsequent cut-off dates every 2 weeks. Eligible applications received after that date will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. VHA Physician Total Rewards. Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized Work schedule: Clinical care hours will be scheduled with the timeframe of Monday to Friday, 07:30-18:00. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting The physician is responsible for diagnosing and treating a wide range of urgent health issues, performing common procedures, and making critical decisions regarding patient care and treatment plans. They must be adept at handling a diverse array of medical situations with efficiency and compassion, maintaining high standards of medical practice and patient safety. Additionally, the physician will collaborate with other healthcare professionals both in the local VA clinic as well as providers in the community to ensure comprehensive patient care and will stay updated with the latest medical procedures and practices relevant to urgent care medicine. Direct supervisor is the Redding Urgent Care Medical Director, VA Northern California Health Care System. Major Duties/Responsibilities: Clinical - 100%: As an urgent care physician, the provider is responsible for providing immediate, patient-centered medical care for a wide array of acute and urgent conditions. The primary duties include conducting medical examinations, accurately diagnosing illnesses and injuries, and formulating effective treatment plans. The physician is expected to simultaneously manage a diverse range of cases, from common infections and minor injuries to more complex conditions like fractures or acute exacerbations of chronic diseases in a timely manner. The role demands proficiency in performing minor procedures such as suturing, splinting, incision and drainage. The physician must also be skilled in the interpretation of diagnostic tests, including lab results and radiographic imaging. Collaboration with the veterans Patient-Aligned Care Team to ensure comprehensive patient care, along with the ability to provide guidance and supervision to ancillary staff, is crucial. Furthermore, the physician is expected to stay abreast of current medical practices and procedures, adhering to evidence-based practices and guidelines, while also contributing to the continuous improvement of service quality and patient safety within the urgent care setting. U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
