The Miami VA Healthcare System is seeking a Hematologist/Oncologist to join our dynamic team caring for both outpatient and inpatient Veterans. This role offers a distinctive academic opportunity through a dual appointment with the University of Miami's Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT that will remain open until filled. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and will remain on file through December 31, 2026. Additionally, this announcement has been amended to include a dual appointment with the University of Miami's Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. This position is ideal for a physician committed to clinical excellence, academic growth, and improving outcomes for Veterans through education, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Duties include but not limited to the following; Provide state-of-the-art outpatient care to hematology/oncology patients which includes new consultations, initiation and management of chemotherapy, maintaining proficiency with appropriate procedures required for the care of such patients, and follow-up care of such patients. Manage chronic medical problems and preventive medicine such as management of problems specific to hematology /oncology patients. Provide consultative care to inpatients with hematology/oncology problems, including initiating and managing chemotherapy. Participate in the training of medical students, residents, and fellows on the hematology service. Promote an atmosphere of efficiency and accuracy in the timeliness of completed documents. Support research activities in the Section Actively participate in Section activities to ensure that the Veterans are receiving the best care possible. Provide high-quality, compassionate oncology and hematology care to our Veteran population Actively participate in academic activities, including teaching and mentorship Engage in research and clinical trials in collaboration with University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center Contribute to advancing cancer care across two nationally respected institutions VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm (Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor.
