Join our Team at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, San Francisco, CA as a Physician - Surgical Hospitalist.
The primary responsibility of the Surgical Hospitalist is in-house medical coverage of General, Vascular, and Cardiothoracic patients. The Surgical Hospitalist will function in a primary role managing inpatients for these sections. The incumbent would be expected to manage medical care not requiring specialty skills unique to surgeons. In support of the surgical hospitalist, surgical attendings for these specialties will be available for immediate consultation by telephone or in the hospital as necessary.
The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Medical management of surgical inpatients; including patients on the ward, transitional care units, and intensive care units
a. Notify the on-call surgical attending of any major change in a patient's medical status or when alterations to treatment are needed.
b. Consult and coordinate with appropriate services as required for patient care management including but not limited to neurology, renal, cardiology, pulmonary, gastroenterology, hematology, anesthesia, ICU etc.
2. Evaluations
a.Initial evaluation of General, Vascular, and Cardiothoracic surgical consults in the hospital or emergency department.
b. After initial evaluation.
3. Support of surgical patient care
a.Perform simple procedures such as wound vac changes, central line placement, arterial line placement, drain removal, chest tube removal, and other procedures as granted through competency assessment.
b. Prepare patient for emergency operations including consent, booking of case, coordination and notification of services.
4. Additional duties as assigned

Expected Salary Range from $270K - $315K (negotiable based on candidate's qualifications, credentials and experience
